National Day of Supporting Patients with Rare and Intractable Diseases
On the occasion of the National Day of Supporting Patients with Rare and Intractable Diseases (January 20), the Secretariat of the International Congress of Vaccine and Vaccination (ICVV) emphasizes the critical need for scientific innovation, equitable access to healthcare, and long-term strategic action to improve the lives of individuals affected by rare, chronic, and hard-to-treat diseases.
Rare and intractable diseases often remain underdiagnosed and undertreated due to limited awareness, scarce diagnostic tools, and insufficient therapeutic options. While vaccines are not applicable to all such conditions, emerging advancements in vaccinology, molecular medicine, and immunotherapy are opening new pathways for early intervention, immune modulation, and preventive strategies.
ICVV underlines that supporting patients with rare diseases requires an integrated, interdisciplinary approach. Strengthening international scientific collaboration, expanding educational opportunities for young researchers, and investing in research infrastructures are essential for developing innovative, equitable, and sustainable health solutions.
"On this national observance, the ICVV Secretariat reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness, promoting scientific exchange, and advancing novel approaches that bridge the gap between research and the unmet medical needs of patients worldwide."
