National Cancer Prevention Day
On the occasion of National Cancer Prevention Day (January 28), the Secretariat of the International Congress of Vaccine and Vaccination (ICVV) highlights the essential role of scientific innovation, immunology, and preventive health strategies in reducing the global burden of cancer.
Cancer remains one of the most significant public-health challenges worldwide, affecting millions of individuals each year. While many cancers require complex therapeutic approaches, advancements in fields such as cancer immunotherapy, therapeutic vaccines, viral-vector technologies, and immune-modulating biologics have opened new horizons for prevention, early intervention, and targeted treatment.
ICVV emphasizes that cancer prevention depends on coordinated efforts across scientific research, public awareness, and equitable access to effective health services. Vaccines such as the HPV and HBV vaccines demonstrate how immunization can play a transformative role in preventing certain types of cancer, reinforcing the importance of continued investment in vaccine-based strategies.
As a global scientific platform, ICVV remains committed to fostering high-level scientific exchange, promoting cutting-edge research, and supporting collaborative initiatives aimed at expanding the role of immunology and vaccinology in cancer prevention. On this national observance, the ICVV Secretariat reaffirms that reducing cancer burden is both a scientific priority and a shared responsibility toward building a healthier future.
