Food safety begins with animal health and extends throughout the production, processing, storage, and distribution of food. On World Food Safety Day, the importance of animal health, the prevention and control of infectious and zoonotic diseases, and effective monitoring across the food production chain are recognized as essential components of public health protection.

Healthy livestock and poultry, hygienic farming practices, effective biosecurity, and continuous pathogen surveillance play a vital role in reducing microbial contamination and preventing foodborne transmission of diseases associated with animal-derived products. Responsible use of veterinary medicines and efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance are equally important for protecting animal health, ensuring food safety, and preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments.

Under the One Health approach, human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected. Controlling emerging and re-emerging diseases, strengthening surveillance and laboratory diagnostic systems, advancing veterinary vaccines, and promoting collaboration among veterinarians, laboratory scientists, the food industry, and public health professionals are essential to building a safer and more sustainable food system.

The 1st International Congress of Vaccine and Vaccination (ICVV 2026) emphasizes the importance of prevention, innovative vaccine technologies, and collaboration across human and veterinary medicine, research, and industry to control infectious diseases and safeguard public health.

Safe food begins with healthy animals. Human, animal, and environmental health are interconnected.
