Dr. Bani Hashemi: Vaccines Are at the Heart of Global Transformations Ahead
Dr. Seyed Reza Bani Hashemi, Special Representative of the President for the National Vaccine Ecosystem, has emphasized the strategic role of vaccines at the intersection of health, technology, power, and social behavior, drawing on his analysis of the 2027 special issue cover of The Economist.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Dr. Bani Hashemi discussed the cover of the January 4–10, 2027 issue of The Economist, titled The World in 2027, describing it as a reflection of the interplay between health crises and political, social, and technological transformations.
Highlighting advances in modern vaccine technologies, including recombinant, mucosal, oral, and rapid-development platforms, he noted that vaccines are no longer merely tools for combating disease. They can also influence pathogen transmission patterns and population-level immune responses.
Dr. Bani Hashemi further stressed the need to move beyond emergency-driven responses toward proactive policymaking, greater technological independence, and the development of sustainable infrastructure. He identified an integrated national vaccine ecosystem as a potential pathway to strengthening resilience and enhancing the country's health security.
